The Forest Value Chain Association of Kenya is an umbrella association for some if not all industry players along the entire forest value chain. They include but not limited to tree nursery owners, saw millers, fuelwood merchants, timber retailers, charcoal dealers and contractors.
Our primary focus is offering policy advocacy, conservation, direct technical support, capacity building and networking.
The Forest Value Chain Association of Kenya was registered on 9th February 2022 with the aim of bringing together all players in the wood-based industry in Kenya in order to address challenges affecting them.
Mission
To Ensure efficient conversion and utilization of wood and wood by-products as a tool of conservation for supporting the economy up through the forest value Chain.

Forest Value Chain Association of Kenya (FVCAK) is a formation of a forest wood industry value chain players. The association draws it’s membership along the forest wood harvesting, processing and value addition livelihood players. The Association chain-link forest plantation developers, machinery fabricators and suppliers, wood harvesters and converters, by-product consumers, transporters, financiers and Community Forest Associations as stakeholders. Kenya Forestry Service, Research institutions, Community Forest Associations and Ministry of trade and Cooperative are considered Key stakeholders among others players. Its focus is on those players whose livelihood is dependent on forest wood production.
The timber value chain suffers inefficiency in processing and high transaction costs due to inconsistent policy management prompted by frequent moratoriums, infrastructure, and improper technological transfer. Due to these constraints, the Association seeks a focus on efficient joint service delivery to ensure sustained forest wood sustained harvesting players along the market value chains. The association intends to facilitate members in enhancing reduction on forest destruction and wastage.
FVCAK believes that poverty and greed subjects forests to destruction and sustainable development can be achieved by respecting and maintaining the integrity of both biological and physical environment. Everyone deserves an equitable opportunity to participate on environment business growth despite their economic status.
It is in this belief system that informs our focus on Sustainable Livelihoods and Greening the Economy. Members will achieve this by stimulating solutions for and by the bottom of the pyramid in order to tackle issues to do with environmental degradation, climate change and poverty reduction.
There are myriads of challenges facing Kenya Industrial forestry. The challenges which have been conspicuously identified are: Bureaucracy, lack of adequate information on the state of forests and forest investors, shortage of wood materials to sustain the industry highly affecting plywood, pulp and paper production, Licensing duration for forest industries, inadequate financial mechanisms to support forestry investors, insufficient technical support, weak representation in the industry and corruption.
