Our vision will be achieved through an all-inclusive and participatory stakeholder consultative process, involving value chain players from all parts of the country. This will involve stake holding with the both local and National Governments organs.
The major Wood products value chain value chain players involves; –
- Timber value chain
- Plywood and veneer value chain
- Chipboard, fibre board, Medium density fibre board (MDF)
- Treated electricity transmission poles
- Charcoal value chain
- Fuelwood value chain
- Furniture and wood curving value chain
- The leading local and international experts and Universities will become our partners in research, education, and efficient machinery innovation and identification.
- The Association observes the consistent need to support Construction and furniture Industrial development to increase National GDP.
- CHAPTER 5: ARTICLE.69 (1). The section of the Kenya Constitution 2016, deals with land, the environment and natural resources. Which are key grounds of operation and source of raw materials. Land is categorized into public, community and private land. Article 69(1)a, b, e, g and h emphasizes the development and management of the forest sector through:
- Ensuring Sustainable exploitation, utilization, management and conservation of the environment and natural resources, and ensure the equitable sharing of the accruing benefits;
- achieving and maintaining at least 10% tree cover of the land area;
- protecting and enhancing intellectual property and indigenous knowledge of biodiversity and genetic resources;
- public participation in the management, protection and conservation of the environment;
- protecting genetic resources and biological diversity;
- protecting genetic resources and biological diversity;
- establishing systems of environmental impact assessment, audit and monitoring;
- eliminating processes and activities that are likely to endanger the environment; and,
- Utilize the environment and natural resources for the benefit of the people of Kenya.
- collaboration with key stakeholders, become Association’s priority will to assess the existing opportunities and challenges facing Kenya forest Industry. This forms the key and window mitigating challenges facing forest industry in Kenya.
- The Association supports the four pillars: – food security, affordable housing, universal health care, manufacturing and Job creation. About 80% of wood industry is rural based. The industry supports the rural poor thus reduces rural to urban migration. The industry ensures an ordinary Kenyan is employed or has a reliable source of livelihood.
- The association is cognizant of the role the construction industry is playing in strengthening the country’s GDP. Therefore, the Association works in collaboration forest plantation developers for production of standardized wood and wood products for construction and furniture industry. The performance of the construction industry directly affects the development and management of infrastructure facilities and services in Kenya.
- To achieve its vision of revolutionizing and moving the timber industry to the desired National standards, the Kenya Forest Value Chain Association remains committed to wood resource development by supporting community Forest Associations to back up seedlings raising and forest protection.
- The association supports members in observing high efficiency during harvesting, converting and utilization of wood products with their by-products. Innovation will play the role in the whole value chain.
- Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) constitute 98% of businesses in Kenya and contribute 30% of jobs and 3% to the GDP. SMEs represent an opportunity to develop the rustic furniture production and possibly bring carpenters into formal production by developing their capacities and skills as well as supporting them to set up formal enterprises. Small and medium sawmills play a role in job creating and in manufacturing products for the market. Sawmills operate low-technology sawing systems with low timber recovery and need support to upgrade technology in order to improve production efficiency.
- In executing its projects, programs and activities the FVCA will utilize one or more of the following approaches:
- Initiate and implement pilot projects, normally in collaboration with KFS and other forestry stakeholders especially in matters of technology transfer.
- Be represented at relevant international and regional meetings on forestry industry matters.
- Commission experts and institutions to carry out studies and research on improved efficiency in operations and modern technologies.
- Constitute permanent and ad hoc task forces, think tanks and committees mainly from among its membership to analyze and give advice on specific issues, problems and solutions.
- Organize workshops, seminars and conferences, as and when appropriate.
- Issue reports, publications and other relevant material emanating from its work.
- Provide a systematic information base on forests and trees in Kenya, and a monitoring and evaluation mechanism for developments relevant to these resources
